Endorphins
Endorphins are the ''happy hormones'' that are released when we create opportunities that benefit our mental and physical wellbeing.
The name derives from “endogenous morphine,” meaning internally produced morphine. A very appropriate description, because the identification of these compounds stemmed from the discovery that that molecules isolated from opium, such as morphine, provided pain relief by stimulating receptors on nerve cells. -McGill University
Here are 4 ways you can produce endorphins today!
1
Laughter
They say laughter is the best medicine. It doesn't only improve your mood, it can also instantly change your body's functions. Even the anticipation of laughter does the trick!
Numerous experiments have shown that laughter can affect the body’s physiology, reducing blood pressure, improving immune function and even reducing pain. -McGill University
2
Exercise
Have you ever heard of ''runner's high''? Endorphins give you a good feeling when you help your body stay strong and active. They can also help you relax by reducing stress and pain.
Exercise reduces levels of the body's stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body's natural painkillers and mood elevators. -Harvard Health Publishing
3
Sing, make music
Creating music and singing can all stimulate an emotional release, increasing the production of endorphins. Read more on the subject HERE.
4
Meditation
Meditation helps you relax and focus on the present moment releasing endorphins and reducing the production of stress hormones that cause inflammation.
